Are traffic lights the only way to regulate traffic or
is it possible to follow some basic rules that facilitate fluid and safe traffic in a environmentally-friendly way?

Have you ever been frustrated in a traffic jam? Have you ever thought that traffic lights don’t “get” what’s going on around them and chaotic situations are being created? Traffic lights are programmed based on typical traffic patterns for the time and location. They are unaware of what’s actually happening at the particular moment. Stopping and waiting for red lights is irritating and it is also a huge source of wasted fuel and extra CO2 emissions.
Lately scientists have come up with something that may greatly reduce the time that drivers stay at red lights. A system that allows traffic lights to monitor traffic in real time, and coordinate their signals accordingly.
It is a computer model that will equip the virtual traffic lights on those roads with sensors that will monitor the local traffic flow. Using this input, each light will calculate the expected number of immediately oncoming vehicles, and figure out how long it would have to stay green in order to let that traffic through.
The lights also will communicate with each other and adjust their timing. The end result is expected to reduce waiting time of 10 to 30%.
This kind of system will not only reduce traffic jams, but would also eliminate situations such as drivers having to wait at empty intersections, or lights cycling unnecessarily when no traffic is present.
All these mean no waste in time, in fuels, in energy-electricity for traffic lights operation, reduction of environmental polution. An other solution of course could be cooperation and empathy of drivers and pedestrians on roads.

Although traffic lights are a very clever invention,there are many cases that people do not follow the law and as a result a lot of accidents occur every day.If people were more lawful, many casualties could have been avoided.In our civilized society, pedestrians and drivers alike should respect each other and obey traffic regulations. Public safety and human lives should be top priority for those who use the streets.

This is by means of causing any of the following disadvantages of traffic signals:1.There is an increase in the use of less-adequate streets to avoid the traffic signals.2.There are some drivers that disobey the signals.3. There is an increase in traffic congestion, fuel consumption, and air pollution.4.- There is an excessive delay because of the time allocated in the traffic signals.

People should always obey the traffic rules otherwise they must invent new ways to rule traffic congestion

traffic lights are very important.in the beggining, they made them so that people don't just go whenever they want to because this causes accidents. also, traffic lights reduce the chance of an accident, causing the traffic congestion to go down the most during rush hour. furthermore it has become easier with the help of traffic lights to control traffic and allow traffic to flow in an orderly fashion. traffic lights are also very easy to understand because of the way they work (the colors). even though traffic lights are not the only way to regulate traffic, i think that its the most efficient and easy one.

The use of traffic lights is a great way to avoid many accidents. People should be more carefull and responsible when they drive to avoid many accidents.
